Top 5 Things to Consider Before Undergoing Plastic Surgery

abdominoplasty in las vegasWhen considering a plastic surgeon, it is important to be sure you have one that is trustworthy, that will give you the best possible service, and is one you can afford. However, there is a hierarchy of things that are needed and things you should consider before getting plastic surgery. This article will give you the top 5 things to consider before you undergo a plastic surgery.

When you’re looking for a health care provider, you wouldn’t try to find one that is simply the cheapest. You wouldn’t want one that simply charges you the lowest rate. Instead, you would consider one who has good qualifications, experience, and credentials to know that he will be professional when assisting you. The same is with plastic surgeons. If you are looking for a good plastic surgeon, there are many things you should consider outside of price, although that is a good point.

Look at your budget.

While budget shouldn’t be your only concern, because if you only choose a plastic surgeon for their cheap services, you may find one who is not worthy of your trust. However, it is important to know what your budget is, and stick to it. Figure out the exact number you can spend, and see what is available. You may be able to find a procedure within your budget.

Stay in the US.

Many people may talk of successful experiences with plastic surgery when they go abroad, but you should be wary before considering this. Many people are tempted by the prices that are offered by those out of the country, but you may be giving up many rights in a foreign place. As well, foreign surgeons do not have the same regulations as those in the US, which may put your health at serious risk.

Get a consultation.

Always have a consultation before undergoing surgery. This is a good time to discuss your personal needs in a surgery, and to ask any important questions you may have. This is also a good time to see if the doctor is one you feel you can trust.

Get Medical Tests.

Before having any surgery, it is important to have proper assessments done. Always have a complete physical and make note of any medical issues before undergoing a procedure. If you don’t, you may be at risk of complications during surgery.

Get your doctor’s credentials.

Where did your provider study? What papers or certifications can be provide? Is the provider board certified in your state? Whatever type of surgery you may be going in for, you need to make sure you’re aware of the risks that may be involved. A trustworthy doctor will always provide you with this information.

All of these tips will help you make sure you find a doctor who is trustworthy, and can complete your procedures in the safest, most budget-friendly manner possible. Understanding the Face-lift Procedure

facelift in las vegasA face-lift is the most extensive way to reduce or fully remove the appearance of wrinkles and sagging of the face that may be caused by age. This article will help explain the face-lift procedure and what you should know before you decide to have it done to you.

What is a face-lift?

As mentioned before, a face-lift is a surgical procedure that removes or reduces the appearance of wrinkles on the face. In times past, when the face-lift was first introduced to the cosmetic arena, the skin was literally lifted off the face so skin and tissues beneath it could be tightened, and the skin would subsequently be re positioned smoothly over top of the face. This is still done today.

What happens during the procedure?

Before undergoing this procedure,  you will be sedated either through an intravenous line or general anesthesia. After this, the surgeon will make an incision that starts in the temple and circles around the top and front of the ear. The skin is raised up, and the muscle and tissue underneath is tightened. The surgeon may find fat and skin that should be removed at this point. Following this, the skin is then redraped over the face and the incision is closed. It typically falls along the hairline or in a place where the skin would normally crease, so the scarring will not show after surgery.

What is to be expected following surgery?

After surgery, your face will be bandaged. These bandages are usually removed after 1 to 2 days. There may have also been a drainage tube placed in your face after surgery and that will be removed at the same time as well.

Your doctor may also prescribe medicines to relieve the pain after surgery. You should expect swelling and bruising of the face. Cold compresses and ice should relieve these side effects. Doctors will also advise to avoid smoking because tobacco smoke increases risk for skin and tissue death and will make scarring even worse.

After 2 to 3 weeks, most people can return to their normal activities.

How well does this procedure work?

Having this procedure can make your face look younger and healthier. There is no escaping aging, but a face-lift is known to “take years off” your face. It may increase your self-confidence and reduce anxiety over growing older. However, it cannot reverse sun damage or remove all facial wrinkles. For best results, you may want to have skin treatment along with a face-lift.

This procedure is a great one to undergo if you feel you need a boost to your confidence and your self-image afterward. As with any cosmetic surgery, this is a medical procedure and you should always consult your doctor before undergoing any surgeries. Be sure your doctor is board-certified, and always make sure you know all the facts before you begin.  If you’re looking for a facelift in Las Vegas contact us today for a consultation.

Tummy Tuck Procedure

tummy tuck in las vegas

Facts about the Tummy Tuck procedure

Many people suffer from the inability to tighten the excess skin or weight around their abdomen area.  This may be due to aging, heredity, or even pregnancy. These patients may desire a procedure to surgically remove this excess skin. Those who desire a tummy tuck may hope they are candidates for a “mini” tummy tuck, which has a shorter scar. Unfortunately many people are not candidates for this mini procedure, because of where they carry that extra skin. This article will explain more about this procedure.

Who is a candidate for this procedure?

The ideal candidates for this type of procedure are those who carry most of their weight below their belly button. This is likely to be seen in women who have been pregnant multiple times. The reason for this is that the abdomen expands largely in the lower portion when pregnant.

This procedure is also typically recommended for those patients who are in good health, but have plateaued with diet and exercise. These techniques can only work so well, and will not usually get rid of excess skin. Those who want this procedure done should not have excess fat above the belly button.

Another thing to consider is that if you plan to lose a significant amount of weight, this procedure may not be right for you. The incisions and tightening of the skin may not do well with large fluctuations in your weight, so keeping it at low level is the best way to ensure that your surgery is most effective.

What type of scarring occurs with this procedure?

In this type of procedure, an incision is placed below the belly button. This is done in the exact same place as a full tummy tuck, but the incision is much shorter. In a full tummy tuck the incision and scar stretches all the way around to the hips, which is necessary in order to remove upper abdomen skin. In a mini tummy tuck, the incision only stretches across the front of the lower abdomen.

In a full tummy tuck, so much skin may be removed that a repositioning of the belly button will likely be necessary. In a mini tummy tuck, this is not needed, which is another reason why patients may desire this procedure over the full one.

Before undergoing either one of these procedures, be sure your doctor is a certified member of The American Board of Plastic Surgeons. The board approves both procedures, and if your doctor is certified, you can be assured that you will have better care.

If you’re looking for a mini tummy tuck, visit our office for a consultation. You may desire this type of procedure, but you may not be the best candidate. However, most patients, if not good candidates for the mini procedure, will be able to qualify for the full one instead. This procedure can remove that excess skin you’ve been carrying around, and make you feel lighter, healthier, and happier. Talk to your doctor about getting this procedure today.

Breast Reconstruction Surgery

breast reconstruction in Las Vegas Breast reconstruction surgery is a common procedure that is performed after a mastectomy is done after breast cancer. This type of surgery is done to replace skin, breast tissue, and the nipple that is removed during the mastectomy. The amount of tissue that is removed during these procedures is different for each patient, so a pre-operative exam must be done in order to see whether you are a candidate for this surgery.  The ultimate goal of this surgery is to restore symmetry between both breasts.

Thinking about breast reconstruction

When it comes to breast reconstruction in Las Vegas, the choices that may be right for one woman won’t be right for you, and the choices that may be right for you may not be right for anyone else. This is why it’s important to consult your doctor before undergoing any of these procedures. The long-term prospects of living without a breast or even part of a breast will affect every woman differently.

After you undergo a mastectomy, you may opt to wear pads or external breast forms, or you may choose to make no attempt to alter your appearance. Conversely, you may choose to undergo breast reconstruction, which can be done with breast implants, or your own tissue.

Why should this be considered?

Restoring the breast is not considered cosmetic surgery, done by many today to enhance the appearance of their existing breasts. Reconstructive surgery, done to restore anatomy and symmetry, are considered reconstructive surgery. Because this is done as treatment after a disease, the Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act mandates that insurers proved coverage for breast reconstruction following a mastectomy.

This procedure not only changes your appearance, but it has psychological benefits as well. It can promote a sense of wellness for you and your family.

When should this procedure be performed?

Timing of this procedure is based on many different factors including the patient’s desires, medical conditions, and cancer treatment. It is actually quite common to have the breast reconstruction performed in conjunction with the mastectomy. This not only reduces the trauma and psychological effects from having the breasts removed, but it also removes the expense and discomfort of having two separate surgeries.

It is also possible to do a breast reconstruction months or even years after a mastectomy – provided chemotherapy and radiation treatments have been completed. Consult with a doctor to find out what timing will be right for you if you wish to undergo this procedure.

Breast reconstruction is a fairly common procedure and can work wonders in improving the appearance and feelings of a woman regarding her physical well-being. Undergoing this procedure will ensure that you can feel and look as healthy as possible, and return to a relatively normal life after your battle with cancer. This type of procedure can and should empower women to feel their best, and continue on to conquer their every day lives.

Endoscopic Brow Lifts

endoscopic brow lift Technology has provided many advances in all different types of surgical procedures. One of these new technologies, called the endoscope, has been the key development in this trend. It helps surgeons in nearly every specialty, which includes plastic surgery. With this new technology comes a less invasive procedure.

How do I know if I’m a candidate for this procedure?

Surgeons examine the face as a whole to better determine which procedures should be put into place to create the most balanced natural appearance. When evaluating the face for any procedure, the face is typically divided into three zones: face/neck, brow, and eyes. As these techniques and technologies advance, the analysis of the face became more complex and changed relationships between these zones. If a brow lift is being considered, the upper region of the face will be examined, as well as the face and neck to determine what effects the procedure may have. Just because a brow can be raised does not mean it should be. Consider the following if you wish a brow surgery to be done:

  • Your brows are low from heredity or from changes associated with aging
  • You wish to improve the symmetry of your eyebrows
  • You wish to change the shape of your eyebrows
  • You wish to remove the static wrinkles from your eyebrows
  • You wish to decrease the function of muscles in the brow that cause dynamic wrinkling.
  • You wish to remove excess skin from above your eyes

How is this procedure done?

A scope with a xenon light is the most commonly used endoscope. This will provide a small incision size that is very minimal comparatively. It will also provide adequate light to see what is being done underneath the instrument. A wide variety of instruments are used in this procedure.

Several small incisions are typically made just behind the hairline. This is then done to lift the skin above the brows just enough to improve their appearance. If one has a high hairline or is balding, the incisions or scars can be well placed within a forehead crease.

Fixation may be required in order to keep the brows in place. This type of procedure simply means that titanium screws can be placed in the hairline to hold the skin and bones in place. However, these procedures can be done and successful without fixation, but are far less predictable.

As with any medical procedure, be sure to consult your doctor before you undergo this surgery. While less invasive with the endoscopic tools, it may still be very painful post-op. Talk to your doctor to see if you are a good candidate, and to learn more about the procedure and techniques associated with this surgery. This surgery is approved by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and can be very successful in creating that beautiful, high-brow look you are going for.
