A recent study conducted by Dr. Katie Elizabeth Weichman of New York University has concluded that a breast lift procedure may reduce bra-cup size. Research revealed that women tend to wear the wrong bra-cup sizes most of the time, especially women with sagging breast tissue. A larger bra-cup size can feel more comfortable for women with excess skin around their breasts. Once the skin is removed, a woman will feel more comfortable wearing her true bra-cup size.

Breast lifts are becoming increasingly popular among women in the US. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, nearly 90,000 women underwent the procedure in 2012. Women prefer a breast lift procedure over a breast augmentation because the procedure uses their own breast tissue.

The new study revealed results that women may not have expected. It could be an issue for some women that their bra-cup size may reduce after the procedure. It is imperative that women talk with their doctors before getting the procedure done. Every woman needs to be fully aware of the risks of the procedure.

The average age was 47 years old within the 20 women that participated in the study. Each woman underwent solely a breast lift procedure. The women were studied over a five-year time period. Women were asked their bra-cup size before the surgery and at each follow-up appointment. There was an average decrease of one bra-cup size. During the study each woman only wore a single brand of bra. This was to prevent the varying sizes that different brands can cause.

Only a single patient reported to have an increase in bra size. However, this was due to hormone therapy and weight gain. This was considered when evaluating the bra-cup size. Overall, every woman was satisfied with their breast lift procedure.

For women that are currently not pleased with their appearance of their breasts, a breast lift procedure may be the right option for you. It is important that every woman is aware of the risks of the procedure. Ask your doctor about the possibility of change in size after the procedure.
