There aren’t many industries out there that are more commonly misunderstood by the masses than plastic surgery. So, we’re sharing an infographic that totally dispels 10 of the most common plastic surgery myths. Hopefully, this helps show you how positive an experience plastic surgery can actually be.
Myth #1 | It costs too much.
With recent technological advances, plastic surgery is now a relatively affordable experience. Depending on the type of procedure you’d like to undergo, you can do so without financing and without breaking the bank.
Myth #2 | Implants will interfere with breastfeeding.
The fact of the matter is, numerous women successfully breastfeed healthy babies after having their breasts augmented. Of course, this is not guaranteed so, if you’re concerned, you’ll want to speak with your doctor and your Las Vegas plastic surgeon just to be safe.
Myth #3 | It’s just for women.
This is perhaps the most widely accepted plastic surgery myth. Men deserve to feel happy and confident with the skin they’re in, just like women. Finally, the numbers are starting to match that belief. In fact, the past decade has witnessed male plastic surgery procedures increase almost 300 percent.
Check out the other seven myths!

Understanding the limits of plastic surgery
Many people maintain a belief that plastic surgery will be the key that unlocks their unlimited potential. However, this isn’t always the case. By understanding that there are, in fact, limits to the powers of plastic surgery, you can enter into a commitment to change your body armed with rationality and clearheadedness.
A study published on JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery aimed to determine the empirical value of facial plastic surgery procedures studied fifty independent viewers that were shown the before and after photos of 49 people who had undergone procedures such as face lifts, brow lifts, and/or eyelid surgery.
According to the study, there isn’t usually that drastic of a difference between a pre-procedure face and a post-procedure face to a neutral observer. The study determined that, on average, people who’ve undergone facial procedures only look about three years younger than they did before.
*Keep in mind that this study only included the before and after pictures of people who had relatively simple “touch-up” procedures done. This study did not include patients who had undergone major reconstruction.*
Of course, what ultimately matters most is how you feel about yourself. If you are unhappy with your appearance, you have the right to make a change. You should feel comfortable in your own skin. Contact Reynolds Plastic Surgery at 702.410.9800 today to schedule a consultation with a Las Vegas plastic surgeon and discuss the you you desire to be.
If you can recall your own teen years, remember that these times are filled with angst, melodrama and distaste in one’s self-image. Because this is the case, it can be hard to take your teen’s requests for plastic surgery in Las Vegas seriously.
However, there are cases in which plastic surgery is actually a viable option. The only way to be sure is to evaluate the situation against the four M’s.
Why is your teen considering plastic surgery? Is it for his or her own personal gain? Or, is the decision being pressured by peers, a personal relationship or you? Before you consider moving forward, be sure that this decision is one solely from your child and that he or she is fully committed to the change being considered. Remember to discuss the permanence of the procedure at hand.
How well does your teen understand plastic surgery? Is it understood that the procedure is considered permanent? Is it understood that the procedure is not going to make your teen instantly popular? Make sure that your teen has realistic expectations about the procedure before you proceed.
Be sure that your teen has reached physical maturity before you consider a plastic surgery procedure. Surgically altering the body before it has fully developed can lead to disastrous complications in the future. The best way to confirm maturity is to take your teen for a full physical to ensure that growth has stopped.
Check to see if your teen understands that plastic surgery is not glamorous. They are choosing to undergo a surgical procedure that involves incisions, recovery, pain and possible complications. Do a bit of research with your teen to ensure that they are mindful of the ins and outs of plastic surgery before both of you agree that it is a wise idea to go under the knife.
Facts to Consider
In addition to the four M’s, there are a couple of facts that you want to consider to ensure that your teen is safe should you allow plastic surgery in Las Vegas.
- Nearly 114,000 plastic surgeries were performed on people between the age of 13 and 18 in 2013, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
- Plastic surgery is considered more risky in teens because they rarely understand the short term and long term aspects of the surgery they are asking for.
If your teen is seriously considering plastic surgery, schedule a consultation with one of the Las Vegas plastic surgeons at Reynolds Plastic Surgery. These professionals are dedicated to providing the best possible care for you and your teen. For more information about plastic surgery in Las Vegas, contact 702.410.9800.
